out of (soap) box thoughts
was scrolling through x/twitter yesterday and saw this post about disrupting how people shower... got me thinking about why we just accept showers as they are? like, we've reinvented practically everything else in our homes, but we're still basically showering the same way people did decades ago. weird, right?
three random ideas hit me while shampooing today:
portable shower pods for the renter generation
we've completely reinvented kitchen appliances for renters (hello air fryer obsession), but we're still stuck with whatever crappy shower our landlord installed decades ago.
what if we had self-contained shower booths you could put in any corner? something you could:
- easily connect to existing plumbing
- take with you when you move
- maybe even include a built-in dryer so you don't need towels?
feels like such a missed opportunity for renters who can't renovate but have money to spend on upgrades. plus i'm so tired of feeling guilty about long hot showers because of water and energy costs... what if these portable units recycled heat and water?
apparently i heard about orbital showers that already do the recycling thing, but for permanent installations. need to look into that... my shower thoughts could actually have time to develop π
give away showers, buy soap pod subscriptions
ok this idea is maybe a tiny bit evil but also kinda genius?
what if we had shower heads with slots for proprietary soap pods? like nespresso but for your shower routine.
the shower head would be super high-tech (no scale buildup, programmable water pressure, health tracking) and probably FREE because the real money is in the pods. classic razor/blade business model.
could build an entire ecosystem around it:
- fancy branded soap collaborations
- limited edition scents
- performance pods for gym days or big meetings
- subscription delivered to your door
i'm imagining the marketing now... "dove go fresh (taylor's version)"
lol. but seriously, people would absolutely buy into this - look at how juicero almost worked before everyone realized you could just squeeze the bags.
carbonated shower experience
this one's just wild enough to go viral, which is half the battle for new products.
what if shower water was carbonated? i can already see the hype up:
- "oxygenating bubbles reduce signs of aging"
- "micro cavitation increases blood flow and healing"
- "uses less water while providing more sensation"
honestly who knows if it would actually do anything, but people would definitely talk about it. "you've heard of bubble bath, now try the fizzy shower" π
anyway, these are just random thoughts from my morning shower. there's something about standing under hot water that gets my brain going in weird directions. maybe that's what we're really paying for with our water bills - not the cleanliness but the thinking space.
wonder what other daily rituals we could completely reimagine if we just stopped accepting them as fixed...
